Reiki Level Two — Okuden, meaning "Inner Teaching" — is not simply more Reiki. It is a different dimension of Reiki. Where Level One worked primarily with the physical body and the present moment, Level Two unlocks the ability to work with the mental and emotional body, to heal across space and time, and to channel Reiki with exponentially greater precision and power.
In traditional Japanese Reiki, the movement from Shoden to Okuden was considered a profound spiritual threshold — not to be crossed until the student had demonstrated sustained commitment to daily self-practice and the development of genuine sensitivity. You are here because you are ready.
The Level Two attunement can trigger a deeper cleansing cycle than Level One — sometimes lasting 21 days or more. You may experience vivid dreams, emotional releases, heightened sensitivity to energy and to people, and a shifting of long-held mental patterns. This is the Okuden opening. Embrace it with Gassho and daily self-treatment.
Quantum physics has fundamentally overturned the Newtonian idea that the universe is a collection of isolated, separate objects obeying local causes. What quantum experiments reveal — and what Reiki practitioners have known experientially for over a century — is that reality is profoundly non-local, interconnected, and responsive to consciousness.
In 1964, physicist John Bell proved mathematically (and subsequent experiments confirmed) that particles once in contact remain instantaneously correlated regardless of the distance between them. This "quantum entanglement" — what Einstein called "spooky action at a distance" — demonstrates that locality is not a fundamental feature of reality.
Reiki practitioners work within this non-local field. When a Level Two practitioner activates Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen and sends Reiki to a recipient in another country, they are not "sending" energy through space — they are activating a resonance within the unified field that both practitioner and recipient exist within simultaneously.

The three Level Two symbols are among the most carefully preserved and transmitted elements in the entire Reiki tradition. They are given to students only after attunement — because without attunement, they are beautiful drawings. With attunement, they become living keys to specific healing frequencies.
The word symbol in this context is almost misleading. The Japanese tradition speaks of these as jumon (sacred incantations) and shirushi (sacred marks). They are the intersection of sound (the spoken name), form (the drawn shape), and intention — three channels that together create a coherent signal in the energy field.
Every time you use a Reiki symbol at Level Two, the activation sequence is the same: draw the symbol in the air or on the body using your dominant hand (or your third eye/breath), speak or silently intone its name three times, and set your clear intention. The three-fold repetition of the name creates a resonant circuit between the three channels — form, sound, and intention — that fully activates the symbol's frequency.
The Level Two symbols are to be kept sacred. Do not display them publicly, write them in unsecured journals, or share them with non-attuned individuals. They carry power that must be handled with the same care one would give any sacred medicine. When you write or draw them in practice, do so with full presence and reverence.
Sei Hei Ki represents the union of Heaven (God, spirit, universal consciousness) and Earth (the human, the body, the manifest). When these two are brought into harmony within a person, the mental and emotional body becomes balanced, coherent, and clear.
The symbol is composed of two distinct parts — an upper arching wave (consciousness, spirit, sky) and a lower stem with a flame (earth, embodiment, desire). Their meeting point is the heart — the place where the human and the divine can find peace.
Studies at HeartMath Institute confirm that emotional coherence (a state similar to what Sei Hei Ki promotes) measurably changes the electromagnetic field of the heart, reduces cortisol, and enhances cognitive function and immune response — physiologically validating what this symbol targets.
The five syllables of Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen translate literally as: "The Buddha in me reaches out to the Buddha in you to promote enlightenment and peace." More freely: "The divine within me connects with the divine within you, beyond all separation of time and space."
This symbol is the most spiritually complex of the three. It encodes within its very structure the understanding that past, present, and future are not sequential fixed realities but dimensions of an eternal now — accessible through conscious intention.
The most powerful and commonly used sequence combines all three symbols in a specific order. This creates a full-spectrum healing field: power is established first, then specific mental/emotional or distance qualities are layered in, and power seals the work at the end.
Draw symbols in the air, on the recipient's body (about 3 inches above), or visualise them being drawn in your mind's eye. Some practitioners draw on their palms before placing hands. Others draw with their tongue on the roof of their mouth for full-body privacy when in public. All methods are valid — intention is the activating force.
In the Theosophical and yogic traditions — and increasingly confirmed by modern psychoneuroimmunology — the human being exists simultaneously in multiple bodies: the physical, the etheric, the emotional (astral), and the mental. Level One works primarily with the physical and etheric bodies. Level Two, through the power of Sei Hei Ki, penetrates to the emotional and mental bodies directly.
Research in psychoneuroimmunology — pioneered by figures such as Candace Pert (Molecules of Emotion) and Bruce Lipton (The Biology of Belief) — has demonstrated that emotional states directly regulate gene expression, immune function, and cellular behaviour. What the ancients called "emotional energy stored in the body," science now calls neuropeptides, cytokines, and the body's chemical messengers of emotion.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study — involving 17,000+ participants — found a direct dose-response relationship between childhood trauma and adult disease including heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, liver disease, and depression. Unresolved emotional wounds are not metaphors. They are biologically active.
Trauma is not stored in the mind as narrative — it is stored in the body as a frozen energetic pattern. This is why talking about trauma often does not resolve it: the energy of the traumatic event remains locked in the nervous system and the emotional body, ready to be triggered by present-moment stimuli.
Sei Hei Ki directly addresses this frozen energy. When placed over a chakra or body area holding traumatic imprint, the symbol creates a resonant field that invites the frozen energy to move — gently, at the pace the recipient's system can handle, and always with their soul's highest good as the guide.
One of the most powerful applications of Sei Hei Ki is combining it with affirmations — positive, present-tense statements that reprogram the subconscious mind. The symbol opens the subconscious to receive new imprints; the affirmation provides the new code.
Draw SHK over the back of the client's head (the subconscious mind's physical gateway) while silently repeating a positive affirmation three times. Examples: "I am safe and supported," "I am worthy of love," "I release all that no longer serves me." Use present tense only — the subconscious has no future.
Never use affirmations to suggest what a client should think, feel, or do. Always affirm qualities that align with their stated healing intention. You are a channel — not a programmer of other people's minds. When in doubt, use universal affirmations: "You are healed, whole, and loved."
Addiction is, at its energetic root, a spiritual longing — a desperate reaching for a state of peace, transcendence, or relief that the soul knows exists but cannot access in its current state. Reiki does not judge this. It offers the actual experience of the peace that was being sought.
For clients working with addiction: apply SHK over the Solar Plexus (seat of craving and willpower), the Crown (connection to the transcendent), and the Heart (where the wound that drives the addiction typically lives). Combine with CKR to strengthen the will. Distance Reiki can be sent daily as ongoing support between sessions.
The randomised controlled trials on distance healing are among the most surprising and contested in all of medical research. A 1998 study at UC San Francisco by Fred Sicher, Elisabeth Targ and colleagues found that AIDS patients who received blind distance healing (neither the patients nor their direct care team knew which group they were in) showed statistically significant improvements in health compared to the control group. The healers in this study were from a wide range of traditions — including Reiki.
"The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence."— Nikola Tesla
Use your own thigh, a pillow, or a teddy bear as a proxy for the recipient's body. State clearly: "This [object/body part] now represents [name]'s physical body." Draw HSZSN to establish the connection, then conduct the full hand position sequence on the proxy.
The most advanced method — and ultimately the most powerful, as it engages the full creative force of the practitioner's consciousness. Visualise the recipient clearly in your mind's eye. See them in miniature form cradled in your hands. Draw HSZSN, set your intention, and channel Reiki directly into the visualised form, moving through each chakra systematically.
It is ideal (though not mandatory) to let the recipient know when you will be sending Reiki so they can be receptive — sitting quietly or lying down at that time. Even without this, the energy will find them. Many practitioners find that recipients report feeling unusual warmth, calm, or emotional shifts at precisely the time of the distant session without knowing it had been sent.
Group Reiki is one of the most beautiful applications of Level Two practice. When multiple attuned practitioners focus simultaneously on the same recipient (or the same collective intention), their individual fields create a coherent amplified wave — much like lasers create coherent light from ordinary photons.
Agree on a specific 15-minute window. Each practitioner independently sets up their session using whichever method feels right (photograph, proxy, or visualisation). All simultaneously invoke HSZSN with the recipient's full name and the shared intention. No coordinator is needed — the unified field handles the coherence.
As an Auviephy student, you now have access to our monthly distance healing circles — gatherings where practitioners at all levels send collective Reiki to those who have submitted their names for healing. These circles demonstrate the practical power of group non-local healing beautifully.
At Level One, you learned the chakra system as a physical and energetic map. At Level Two, you work with the chakras as gateways to psychological transformation — addressing the specific emotional wounds, belief systems, and karmic patterns that each chakra holds. Combined with the symbols, this becomes profoundly deep work.
Beaming is the technique of directing Reiki from a distance using focused intention — as if the practitioner's hands or eyes were a lens concentrating the healing energy into a laser-like beam. This is particularly effective for areas that are too sensitive to touch, surgical sites, tumors, or situations where physical contact is not appropriate.
Crystals are piezoelectric transducers — they generate measurable electrical fields when under pressure and can hold and amplify specific vibrational frequencies. When charged with Reiki symbols and arranged in intentional geometric patterns, they create a sustained healing field that continues working even after the practitioner has left.
Crystals particularly suited to Level Two work: Clear Quartz (amplification), Amethyst (mental/emotional healing), Black Tourmaline (protection), Rose Quartz (heart healing), Lapis Lazuli (truth and Third Eye).
Draw the three symbols in the four corners of a room, in the centre, above, and below. State the intention: "This space is cleared, protected, and filled with Reiki light for the highest good of all who enter." For home clearings after illness, grief, or conflict, repeat weekly. For healing practices, clear before every client.
Hatsurei-Ho is the original Japanese Reiki meditation practice recovered from Usui's own writings. Unlike the Western approach focused primarily on hand positions, Hatsurei-Ho focuses on cleansing and expanding the practitioner's own energy body — making them a clearer, larger channel before working with others.
A powerful Level Two meditation: sit in Gassho, draw each symbol in your mind's eye, and then breathe the symbol's energy into your body. For CKR — breathe power, clarity, and light. For SHK — breathe peace, emotional resolution, and balance. For HSZSN — breathe boundlessness, connection, and the dissolution of separation.
Practice this for 5 minutes per symbol, working through all three in sequence. Over time, your body will learn to generate each frequency spontaneously, without needing to draw the symbol explicitly — the symbols will become part of your energetic vocabulary.
You are ready when: daily self-practice is effortless and natural. The symbols feel like extensions of your own energy rather than tools you apply. You have given at least 50 documented sessions. You feel called from within — not from ambition or comparison with others. The Master level is not a credential; it is a way of being. It chooses you as much as you choose it.
Auviephy Institute is a Reiki Master Teacher, holistic healer, and the founder of Auviephy Wellness Centre — Mumbai's women-centred healing sanctuary built on the philosophy "for her, by her."
Her journey into energy healing began with a clinical background in physiotherapy, which gave her a deep anatomical and physiological foundation. What she discovered through years of practice was that the most persistent physical conditions in her clients had roots not in the tissue but in the energy body — in unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, and energetic patterns that manual therapy alone could not reach.
This discovery led her to Reiki, NLP, breathwork, crystal healing, chakra therapy, tarot, and numerology — each modality deepening her understanding of the multidimensional nature of human healing. At Auviephy Wellness Centre, she integrates these disciplines into coherent, personalised healing journeys for clients in Mumbai and globally through online sessions.
As a Reiki Master Teacher at Shinpiden level, Auviephy Institute has trained and attuned students across multiple levels of the Usui Reiki system. Her teaching philosophy: Reiki is not a skill to be learned but a frequency to be embodied. Each student she trains becomes a living transmission of this ancient healing intelligence.
